Tyler is known regionally for its rose-growing history and the Azalea District, and that heritage is visible in the housing. The older districts near the centre hold period homes on established lots, while newer residential growth runs south and west of Loop 323 toward Flint and Noonday.
The gap between an older Tyler neighborhood and a newer development south of the loop is wide, and the two need different approaches. Period homes in the established districts reward renovation work that respects the original scale and detailing of the street. Newer areas give more freedom on layout and orientation but come with their own restrictions on setbacks and elevations.
